Not so smart, Santa

It's that time of year.... Christmas shopping time!!! K so I haven't actually bought anything, but my list of ideas is growing and the panicky feeling that I need to start buying things a little at a time is full force. Of the many ideas we are getting for the girls, Josh and I thought it would be a good idea to get Ugg boots. Mind you not "Ugg" brand, but just something cute from Target. They are kids... they grow way too fast for me to spend $100 or whatever it costs on real Uggs! Anyway, I'm thinking to myself maybe a dark brown would be good, something like that. But I wanted to see if they liked them before we committed. So when we were at Old Navy last weekend and I saw I a pair I thought to myself, Perfect! Well, self... you should have paid just a tiny bit more attention to the selection that was there before opening your big fat mouth. Both girls sighed a perfect shopper's sigh and said yes they'd want those... however... they found what they'd want EVEN more.

Kali picked up these (and gasped):

K now let me explain that this picture does not come close to what they look like in person. They are bright GOLD!!! WITH GLITTER!!!!

Here is what Mackenzie picked:

Ok so at least these won't be visible from space, but its a far cry from the dark brown that matches almost everything I had in mind!!!

These girls were just never meant to blend in.

Fairy Gardens

Several months back, Pattie got me going on an idea to make fairy gardens with the girls. To get them excited about it, she even got us this pop-up book, isn't it cute??

Here is what one of the pages looks like:

Josh was overly thrilled at the idea of having to dig up flower beds in our rock hard front yard... but several hours later we had 2 cute half circles under each of the front bedroom windows. Pattie and Dad were sweet enough to start us off with our first bunch of petunias. The girls ended up being so into it, we went and doubled the amount of flowers. Josh took the girls to go get "Fairy sized" wind chimes and ornaments to encourage fairies to visit their gardens often. We finished it off by putting stepping stones with their hand prints in the middle of each garden. Admittedly the excitement died down occasionally, but they could always be talked into to watering and checking in on their gardens to make sure they were at the proper fairy standards.

Then summer came. This last heat wave was no match to our efforts to water, and keep these flowers nurtured. I sent Pattie a pic msg asking if there was any hope. After seeing the picture of the fairy gardens, she wrote back that "Hun those petunias are as dead as the get!" I was so disappointed!!! So I sat on in for a few days, then had an idea.

Last night I brought the girls out after dark, and handed them each a hot pink pouch with "magical fairy dust" that Pattie had gotten from a very top secret place. I asked if they wanted to sprinkle the fairy dust on our flowers and see if it will help the fairies to see we needed their help, and maybe they would stop by tonight. They both got wide eyed and went straight to it.

Then I waited, and waited and waited. And waited some more. Of course this was the night they fought sleep. 10:30!!! I got up, sleepy, a glass of wine in me... and out I went. I made Josh come with me, and all the while I'm trying to quietly dig up their dead petunias, he's laughing and pointing out the holes in my plan. I didn't get a flower to replace my dead flower pot, only ones for theirs... surely they would see the dirt under my nails... We were laughing so hard I was afraid we'd wake the girls! We finished, scanned the yard to make sure we didn't leave anything out, and went to bed.

When I woke up this morning, I heard the girls playing. I wondered if they had remembered. I peaked into their room I noticed their curtains were open.... which lead right to Kali's fairy garden. So I walked in and Mackenzie immediately grabbed my hand and brought me to the window. She said "Look!!!! Kali has new flowers!" So I suggested we go outside to see if her garden got new flowers too. Here are some of the pics, I didn't get any really great shots but you get the idea!

(If only the grass fairy could come by and give us a new lawn! ha!)

The next thing I want to do is get something to border their gardens... rocks, mini fences, I'm not sure, but they are lacking something and I think that will do the trick!!
In the end I don't know who was more excited, the girls or me... but it sure was fun sneaking around!!

Head Scratcher

Yahoo! recently posted an article about strange laws around the world. Check this out:

Playing the numbers: Rush-hour regulations in many major cities of the Philippines seem meant only for mathematicians: A vehicle can only be driven on days determined by the last digits of its license plate—this is called, for murky historical reasons, the "color-coding scheme." So borrowing a local's car may require more number crunching than it's worth. Even traveling by scooter has its challenges, since you can get ticketed for driving in sandals or bare feet.

What now? Sure makes our laws seem a little less annoying!!

My First Back To School NIght

Last night was Back to School Night for Kali and Mackenzie. This was the first B2SN I've ever been to. Josh and I took a half day off work so that we could drive down to Long Beach before traffic got bad. What to do with this extra time? Well shucks, we went to Sonic. While admittedly my burger was cold and my fries were old, my Route 44 Cherry Coke was hands down the best I'd ever had. It probably helped that a)it was 103 degrees there (no joke!) and I haven't had real soda in quite some time. But it rocked, and Josh LOVED what he had. (This Sonic venture was for him, so I can't complain!)

Anyway, eventually 6:30 wandered around, so we went in. It started with the principal giving a speech on the gigantic black top playground they have. Once the teachers were all introduced we were instructed to go to our student's classrooms for a presentation. Josh split to Kenzie's while I went to Kali's. Much like the doctor's visit, this is where I suddenly became nervous. As I noticed my heart was beating rapidly, I caught myself going wtf? LOL why? Here's why: I walked in and it was like the teacher zeroed in on me. "HI! What's your name?" Oh crap. I had no idea if Kali has talked about me and if this woman will know who I am. So I said my name, and said I was here for Kali, and before I could get much further, she stopped me to tell me she knew all about me, Kali talks about us a lot and to come on in. PHEW.. high five Kals! Next, I found Kali's desk and sat down. Mrs. Grantham had the students fill out an "about me" packet...Kali's answers were priceless. 5 traits: Pretty, Smart, Blue Eyed, English (lol), Sister. Awesome Talent: Wii. HA! Love it! After the teacher gave us a background on herself (she was a student at the same school back in the day), she began to go over expectations, curriculum, daily routines, behavior, etc. Where I started to worry (again, much like at the doctor's office) was at the guidelines for moving on to the 4th grade. Only 6 of her students were actually ready to move onto the 3rd grade reading level. On top of needing to improve there, Kali has to learn multiplication AND division this year. Yikes! We better get some flashcards.

After Kali's class was done and I'd gone up to sign up for volunteering in the class, I headed back to see if Josh was almost done. The girls had just arrived, so I was excited to get to see them and get lots of hugs. Kenzie walked me around her classroom to show me everything. Josh and I were particularly worried about how Kenzie would adjust. She had NO desire to start Kindergarten, and the development learning center she was previous at had the attitude of "if you don't want to participate, its Ok, go do something else." Ya, that doesn't fly in grade school! The teacher told us that admittedly the first few days were a struggle, but one particular art project got her going, and ever since she's been doing just fine. Another PHEW!

So all in all, it was a great experience. Sure I would have loved it that much more if they were going to school out here, but I think that's pointing out the obvious. Next up, parent/teacher conferences!!

Ob la di ob la da

So I haven't blogged in a long while. Lord knows I've started about 10 posts, just to sigh half way through and close out the window without saving it. I find that when I'm grouchy or life gets hard, its challenging to write. Mind you, I could go on and on, griping and complaining about life's latest struggles, but honestly, who whats to hear that? If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't want to read it.

While wallowing in my misery, I felt decidedly annoyed that life continued to go on around me. How dare it? It was this admittance that finally made me get off my soap box and move on, so alas dear faithful readers that hopefully have been checking for new blogs in me 3 week hiatus... I turn to you with a new cheek.

One thing that undoubtedly lifts my spirits is the very near arrival of fall. I heart fall. It's something Pattie and I have bonded over. There is something about the air, that cool breeze when you are watching Sunday Football that makes your toes get cold and yearn for socks that just makes my spirits rise. Then of course there is the change in season (even the subtle So Cal changes), pumpkins, Halloween, decorations... it's only just beginning. You can count upon several more posts in the upcoming weeks about Fall. The girls and I have numerous projects lined up, and a trip to Underwood Farms is already scheduled!

So.... onward and upward...

Lamp Lust

We picked up the girls today for the last partial week of summer *sad*. While we were sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the 405, we saw the wonderful blue and yellow colored building signalling an Ikea was within our reach. The girls know it as "the store where we can touch EVERYTHING!" so of course they were on board. We high tailed down the off ramp and in we went.

Even if you don't buy anything it's such a fun store to walk around in. Showroom after showroom of endless ideas and vibes. We joked that Kali was going to pass out if she gasped and said "I LOVE this!" one more time. If I won the lottery I would seriously consider furnishing a lot of my home from Ikea. I'm not a snob I don't need a coffee table for $5000 just because I could.

All the while I was enjoying myself, but it was when we got to the room of lamps that I really felt my shopping urge soar. What in the world is it about lighting that just gets me all giddy inside? Beats the hell out of me. But all our lighting at home was purchased from Ikea. Maybe its the cheapskate in me that is filled with oodles of joy over the unbeatable prices or just the fact that they are a little funky and not the standard Bed-Bath-and-Beyond-everyone-has-it lamps. But today, I felt my Kali-sized gasp come out over a new lamp I've not yet seen. It was small, warm, inviting, girly... just what my bedroom needs!! I felt my heart swell up, my hand gently roaming over the frosted design on the glass. I held my breath as I flipped over the price tag. $16!! That was it!!! Oh my ... my brain immediately went to how to justify the fact that I needed this lamp. Unfortunately, the last lamps we bought were... for our bedroom. Boo. Fine. But I WILL be back. I will eventually scheme up something (or accidentally break 2 lamps in our room) and find a justifiable cause to purchase these beauties. I will.

This image doesn't do it justice, but I have to give you some sort of an example!

What's for dinner?

In an attempt to not bring the inside temperature of our house to 100 degrees, I went outside to BBQ last night. Josh was in a burger mood, but I was wanting something a little less traditional. One of the things I've fallen in love with in our new world of cooking is fresh ginger. I'd seen it plenty of times on cooking shows, with its weird funky shape and wondered what it was really like to use. The first time I bought it, I looked at it for 5 minutes before deciding how to attack it. My first slice... oh my.. the smell is what gets me. It just makes me want to get creative and start cooking as much as I can. So when I stumbled upon an Asian inspired burger with fresh ginger I was sold.

Turkey Burgers with Special Sauce

Our verdict: Super juicy with lots of flavor. I felt the Dijon was a little overpowering in the sauce, while Josh thought the soy sauce was a little over powering. You be the judge and let us know!

Pediatric Offices and Adult Hood

Yesterday I took a new step towards my step-parent role with the girls. I don't know what my official title is. LOL blended families confuse me. (You'd think with my background I would totally have it down!) Mackenzie needed to go to the doctor for her 5 year physical and Josh had to work. I didn't even think twice about it, sure I can take her. So I left work around 10am to go pick her up from "Camp Tino" (Great Grandma Valentino watches the girls while we are at work, she is the coolest lady ever and makes a mean meatball.) It was in this moment that I started to get nervous! Mackenzie looked at me and said "I want my Dad to go with me." Yikes. I'm sorry kiddo, you are stuck with me this round. She began drilling me with questions about what was going to happen (mainly, would she be getting shots), tentatively sitting on the couch, fully ready to throw a tantrum. Bless her heart, Grandma Tino (with an extensive nursing background) walked her through it in the least scary way. Mackenzie reluctantly agreed to go. I threw her favorite song on my ipod, brought her favorite stuffed animal and away we went. By the time we got there she was her usual self cracking jokes swinging my arm as we walked.

My wishful thinking died here. As we walked in, the entire office was consumed by a child screaming and crying at the top of his lungs "I DON'T WANT TO GET A SHOT!!!!!" I closed my eyes praying for someone to close the freaking door somewhere!! I waited a second and looked at Kenzie, her big blue eyes staring up at me with a look I can only describe as a sad puppy rejected at the pound. Oh man. So I went into immediate damage control, plopped my big butt next to her tiny one playing with toys. The assistant behind the counter quickly blared "The Jungle Book" on the waiting room TV, trying desperately to drown out the poor child in the back's screams. Luckily, these things seemed to help.

Much to Kenzie's disappointment, we were called back. After the standard height and weight, we were placed in the "Space Ship" room with planets, astronauts and stars. Hey, they try. To my delight (I've trained her well) Mackenzie wanted to snoop through all the drawers and cabinets so we did so and I took the opportunity to try and explain to her what everything was to keep her comfortable. We heard the inevitable knock on the door and scurried back to our seats pretending like we were there all along. This was the point when I feel like the reality of I'm the "parent" responsibility really set in. I spent the next 10 minutes getting grilled with the standard questions. Eating habits, sleeping habits, previous illnesses, allergies, behavior problems? I've known Mackenzie since she was born, I know all of the answers to these questions, but it doesn't mean that the doubt isn't placed. Oh my God - what if she is allergic to something and I am just totally forgetting and then they give it to her? It honestly scared me! Don't worry, I double checked all my answers with Josh after we left, and I was right. (phew! lol)

Once the Q&A session was over, the doctor began Mackenzie's physical, and as she was checking her breathing and what not, began to tell Mackenzie things she should be doing. She talked to Kenz about what she eats, and told her "you should be eating 5-6 fruits or veggies every day." I just about died when Kenzie looked at me with this shocked expression and asked "You aren't going to tell Dad are you?". But my favorite Mackenzie response was when the doc told her she should only be watching TV/playing video games 1-2 hours a day. I asked her if she understood what that meant. She said no, so I explained "1 hour is like 2 spongebobs." Her jaw practically hit the floor. "I'm going to have to talk to Kali about this."

We finished up soon after. Her mom was for whatever reason unable to fax her shots record to the doctor's office, so Mackenzie will have to go back for shots, but I sure I am glad that I've gotten my first trip to the doctor out of the way!

Oh, one last final note. A male nursing assistant was brought in to give Mackenzie the hearing/vision test. He tried really hard to make friends with her, I'll give him credit. When they were done, he stuck up his hand for a high five, and Mackenzie actually put her hand up to hit his, and then stopped midway and changed her mind. What a snot!! He even laughed at her sass. That's Mackenzie for you.

Yep. We like pizza...

So what's on the menu tonight? More pizza. We are pizza eaters, just can't help it. This one is sooo yummy too!! Sausage, peppers and onions... how can you go wrong?

http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=399182

We just used hot italian sausage rather than getting mild and adding pepper flakes (genius, right?)

This also reheats well under the broiler! YUMMMM-O!

Call me Mrs. Roper....

So, I'm a talker. (duh) And, I like to think I'm friendly. I will drive Josh nuts when we go on a hike, and ever hiker we pass I say "Hi!" or "Good Morning!" . He tells me maybe they just want to be left alone. Then don't go hiking on the most popular trail in Thousand Oaks on a Saturday morning I say. I'm just friendly (overbearing?) like that. If you pass me, yes I will stare at your face in hopes you look up where I will flash you a smile and say hi. Why not? I've mentioned in my old blog how I adopt project people. If you are someone I see regularly, and I keep saying Hi to you and you don't respond? I will make it my mission to get a response out of you. I've converted over 10 people while at Amgen who now say hi to me every day. I take pride in the fact I've broken each and everyone so far!

Annnnyways... this is all coming to mind because I have a neighbor. Well 2. 2 men, who not to be stereotypical but I'm pretty sure they are gay. Which hey, all the power to them. They could be purple eaters as far as I'm concerned, no judgement here. When I moved in 6 years ago (wow... it's been that long?) one of these gentlemen was outside. I threw an obnoxious hand in the air and shouted a "hello!" across the street, only to see his harry back in return. (I now know, he routinely waters his yard with his shirt off). Hmmm... this perplexed me. Who wouldn't want to say hi to me? I have now, everytime I've seen this man (the other one rarely is seen unless he is coming or going) waved, smiled, or hollered a friendly hello, just to get nothing in return. Relax dear readers. As I've said before, I've not had one failure yet. Determination!! Alas, today. Victory! I was lugging out the trashcans as tomorrow is trash day. My bald, harry friend was standing close to the street watering away, and looked up just as I looked at him, and there went my hand. Right up in the air! A victorious (HA! Caught you!) wave, smile on my face. I waited for my snub. I almost stopped in my tracks as I heard a sheepish, kind of surprised "hello!' creep across the street into my ears. Keep cool I thought. So I smiled, put the can at the curb, and waited until I was on the other side of the car to do a little jig! HA! It's only a matter of time before we are having neighborhood block parties, joint yard sales and swapping gardening secrets. I can feel it! ;) Don't you totally want to be my neighbor now?

Parts Of Me

Today would have been my mom's 57th birthday. She passed away when I was 3 months old. For so long, I seemed to only acknowledge the day she died. Maybe this was my inability to deal ...I don't know. But somewhere along the way, I decided if I was ever going to mark a day for her, it should be her birthday. I should celebrate her life, not cling to her death. For so long, I put up that wall, pretending like it didn't really effect me all that much that she was gone - I told myself I was too young to know any different. However, around the same time I decided to celebrate her life, I think I finally opened my heart to accept the reality. That it was OK to be sad. To hate that I'll never hear her tell me how hard labor was, or what weird food she craved when she was pregnant with me.

I long to know how I'm like her, what do I just like she did? For so long I wondered this in my own little silent torture... until I finally got the courage to start talking to my family about it. Don't get the wrong idea, it's never been something we weren't ''allowed'' to talk about - I just buried it so deep, I could not bring myself to ask. My Dad, little by little told me some great stories. Some funny, some sad, some with some valuable lessons. Her brothers and sisters were SO excited to tell us anything we wanted to know. We've been flooded with pictures, stories, tears and fond memories. I may not have my own memory of her in my mind, but I feel like she is alive in the memories that we all have in our own way, and I have comfort knowing that part of her will always be in my heart.

Pizza Pizza!

Ok, since I've been asked.... ;) Here is what's for dinner tonight! This was the first recipe we made from the Cooking Light cookbook.... and we've made it every week since, LOL. It's clearly a fav. I think what is so great about it, is each piece is huge, and we can eat the entire thing between the two of us and stay within our points. I give you "Quick Margherita Pizza".

http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=399172

We just use Pillsbury thin crust pizza dough, and we don't like tomatoes so I spread on a thin layer of Ragu pizza sauce (Josh's favorite). This is so simple and SO YUMMY! Go make it. Right now.

Our New Life With Food

If I haven't already told you 10 times, Josh and I are unofficially doing Weight Watchers. I say unofficially because we didn't join. We have the luxury of being related to a one-time leader. So we have a personal expert holding our hands. (Thank you Pattie!) To date, we are on week 5, and I've hit my 10 lb mark and Josh is a sliver away from his 20 lbs mark. Woohoo!! The first week, we didn't know what we were doing, and tried to generally eat what we "thought" was good, in a WW friendly portion. We were starving all week. Our wonderful leader was nice enough to throw us a valuable bone. She got us a Cooking Light cookbook. Every single dinner we eat now comes out of this book, I kid you not. And everything except for one boring salad has been AMAZING. And this is coming from 2 die-hard fast food lovers... anything processed, greasy and cheesy we were all over. I actually laughed with pride the first week we filled both crisper drawers with actual fruits and veggies and not beer and limes.

It has been unreal to realize where that pesky fat is hiding. Things we thought were bad, not so much in the right quantities. Things we thought were healthy....sooooo far from it. It was a bit hard at first but we hit that glorious point when one day, Josh looked at me and said "you know what, these fries aren't worth it." Never had I EVER thought I'd nod in agreement. Don't get me wrong, I will fully admit yes it was me in the In-N-Out drive thru last week getting 2 double doubles with animal style fries, willfully taking Josh down with me in my moment of weakness. Oh my God it was so good. But what I love about WW (getting preachy, sorry) is that.. you can do that. Not every day, but when you just need and need to do it, go for it! We partied hard on my bday weekend (thanks Lizzie!), and still had losses. Explain that to me!!!

So anyway... here is what's on the menu tonight: Chipotle Chicken Taco Salad. (http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=1215905)

Yep, it's as good as it looks. And it's healthy enough that I can squeeze in that Corona light you see in the background! The first time we made it, we followed the directions to the T.. and it was WAY too spicy!! Then Pattie was nice enough to make it as a side salad for my bday dinner, and toned it down and it was perfect! The part I love the most is that I can do a lot in advance. I cooked a ton of chicken over the weekend, so it's ready to go - made the dressing last night. All I have to do when we get home is throw it all together. I highly recommend this one guys!

Where is Ms. Manners when you need her?

So after reading a friend's blog about someone who is causing major unhappy waves in her workplace... it got me grumpy on the thorn in my side at my work place. In our little area, we are blessed with a loud talker. I should say, this individual is already an odd duck.... to be put nicely. But the driving force of all whining and complaining is the constant teleconferences he is on. Once he's on a call... not only does his voice increase, but he literally turns to face me and the other unfortunate soul that have to listen to this. This screams arrogance to me, because when he's on a personal call, his back is turned, his voice lowered.. as it should be for all calls. If it is arrogance, he is sadly mistaken because the sound of him "taking charge and telling people how it is" is read by me as "I think I know everything and chances are everyone in the room is rolling their eyes at me."

What is weird to me is, the other unfortunate soul has access to his calendar and often times, not only is the meeting he calls into in this building (we are on a large campus) but it's also on the same floor!!!! Why are you not going in person?! This baffles me.

(as a side note, as I'm writing this - he is getting on another call. Is that my karma for bitching about this?)

Here are the list of things we've tried to do to make it clear it's disruptive:
- my boss has slammed her door
- we put on earphones (and make a big production with heavy sighs, as we unravel the cords)
- we be loud on purpose trying to drown him out
- shoot evil death rays in his direction
- we've slid him notes asking him to lower his voice
- spoken to his boss

Does any of this work??? NO!!!!!!!!!!

Ok so I know some of you might be whispering to yourself - umm Megan.... you aren't exactly someone I would describe as quiet. Right? I know. BUT - I'm also not stupid. (shut it.) I know when to shut my mouth. Sure there are moments where a few of us get going and I wear my cackle queen crown proud - but I also know when to keep my head down, work hard and shut up! Seriously, someone give this guy a clue!

Reality TV

What is it about reality TV that just sucks you in? There are some I just can't stand. I've never been a Bachelor fan, or Rock of Love or pretty much any of the trashy ones VH1 does. But the ones I love, I L-O-V-E.

Currently, my latest obsession is Big Brother. If its not bad enough that it's on 3 times a week, CBS gives the option to pay to view the live feeds 24/7. (in case you live under a rock, on BB, house guests are taped by like 1000 cameras 24/7 while having no interactions with anyone else or the outside world.. each week there are competitions, evictions, food contests and a ton of drama.) Relax, Josh and I don't subscribe. (But may or may not have done the free 14 day trial. I plead the 5th.)

However, if you have Showtime, for 3 hours EVERY night, you can watch the feeds. It's like a bad car accident... you just can't stop staring. Most of the time nothing exciting happens.. but one night we caught the fight of the century, which lead to the subsequent melt down and expulsion of one of the house guests. And...**squeal** we saw it uncensored. If there ever was one reality show I would want to try out for, BB would be the one. Maybe next year!

But what is it? The fact that we can relate to these guys? We'd all secretly DIE to be in their shoes? Who knows, but it sure makes for good TV...and Mark Burnett is probably the smartest man alive today... well at least one of the wealthiest I'm sure!

9:34am (because I actually LIKE to sleep at night)

Doing my dutiful duty..... I am copying. It's more.... in response... playing devil's advocate? However you want to see it. My dear friend Gina posted a blog about how when you turn 26 you start dying. So what do you make of your life. I'll admit I have brief moments of "omg, I am 24, its not old, but I have been on this Earth for 24 years. What have I done with myself? What do I WANT to do, is there time?" and I go into a full fledged 30 second panic attack before I tuck those dandy little thoughts right into that "I can't deal with this" corner of my brain, and go back to my world of bliss.

Sure, there is always the "go back to school route"... but just as I was warned so many times, once you leave its so hard to go back... I find it hard, not impossible, but hard to see where I would have time right now to fit school in. Don't hear me wrong, it's no excuse. I know if I REALLY wanted to do it, it would work, I get that. But at this point my opinion is, I want the piece of paper that says "Degree in blah blah blah" for the main reason of advancing in my career. Duh you say? Well hang on. I read Gina's blog, and yes, I do love her little Peter Pan mentality that if she keeps picking further degrees and stays in school she'll "still be a kid" (albeit, a kid older than me HAHA!) but, there is also a passion in Gina's decision to move forward with nursing school. Gina has always talked about feeling a need to serve a purpose to help others, its embedded strongly in her. I however, do not have that. LOL selfish right? No I'm not talking about the overwhelming need to help others. I'm not a mean person of course I'm always willing and find it fulfilling to help. I'm talking about the passion on her decision. she knows, dead on, thats what she wants. There is nothing I can say that about career wise right now. So that makes me linger. I keep waiting for it to slap me on the forehead.... how much longer do I wait?

On the flip side, Josh and the girls have shown me there is SO much more to life than work. So my trade off right now, in not taking the time to go to college and work full time, is that my time home, is so precious and valuable to me. Do we start dying at 26? Maybe, I don't know... can't really change it if I cared right? I'd rather think of it in terms of you are now old enough to begin planting the seeds to pass the torch. Yesterday, Josh and I bought Math Bingo for Kali (omg we are so nerdy, when did this happen) because they say kids loose SO much during summer months. Sure enough it took her a few minutes to remember how to multiply but while I sat there watching her 8 year old brain process the question and work through to get the answer, it was neat. You just realize how much potential this new canvas of a brain has. Kali is one smart cookie, and I see how far she can go in the world, just as I'm sure my Dad saw in me.... so maybe I'm just over thinking this and I need to let whats going to happen, happen and realize I am already on my path, and still have so many more miles to burn.

How funky is your chicken....

I am in a funk. Before I get on my soapbox, let me tell you I know I am lucky to have my job, let alone the job that I have at the company it's at. We have more perks than most can boast (haha that rhymed), and I have an awesome boss. The first year in my current job was fast paced, challenging and rewarding. Even I'm annoyed with how much I sound like a poster child. But since the company took a hit, belts have been tightened. I'm not complaining about the few perks we lost, we are still spoiled. But where it actually sucks the most, is that there are no new projects. The way that trickles down to me, is no new opporunities, no ways to expand my skillset, very predictable mundane workdays. (anyone that keeps track of how often I log into facebook during the week, or how great my farm is doing in FarmTown knows this is easily true). It makes me nervous becuase I feel expendable. How do I justify my job if I'm not doing anything above and beyond, critical to the company? It is NOT a good feeling. Not to sound like a goody tooshoos, but I like that challenge, I'd so rather be busy. So, as a result, I just have no desire to go to work and thats just not fun for anyone. I hope it picks up soon.

What I've decided to do is just try to think ahead, whether its later this week, next week, next month, next year... as to what I KNOW is coming up thats exciting and focusing on that. Whats next you ask? Well since you are dying to find out, let me tell you.. ready.....Gina is coming to visit!!!!! Hooooooooray! We have started making a list of all the reasons this visit will be so fun. Wanna hear it:

- Neither of us have hung out since we can drive, so this will be our first, most likely humorous time alone in a car together
-Gina and I both get to be around someone as equally annoying as the other and don't have to worry about getting on eachother's nerves
-As a result, we get to drive Josh completely insane
-Several consequitive days and nights of drinking and binge eating in our moomoo's (although I admittedly don't have one and need to purchase one before she comes!)
-Shopping Sprees - one which will consist of going to the Big Lots in the ghetto to buy pink flamingos for the yard
-THE BEACH!
-Staying up till the wee hours talking like we used to on the tailgate on Dorena
-Bonfires in the backyard
-and bestest of all getting to see my best friend in the whole wide world :) Don't worry, I'm not getting all mushy on you, Gina and I have the kind of relationship where we won't hug, I'll shove her and call her a bad name for taking so long to get here :)

So screw work, I'm excited for my friend to get here in a few weeks!

Hello.

I make no secrets that I am a shameless copy cat to that of a higher power. See: http://barefootconservative.blogspot.com/. It's only fitting that I copy the conservative. We've played this cat and mouse games for years. I turned her onto penguin pajamas with little feetsies so we don't slip, and she taught me how to stain my teeth green and get her mom's eyes to bulge out of her head. It was just meant to be. Besides teaching each other things, we share some valuable similarities that bond us for life. Here are some examples:

1. We like to be barefoot (ok, if you haven't picked up on that one, close my blog, don't waste my time.)
2. We can proudly trip over any flat surface.
3. We think you are all idiots.
4. We can laugh at ourselves.
5. However, we laugh at you more.

That being said, don't judge us. We are the 2 sweetest, nicest girls you know, and if you try to tell me you don't qualify in that list of 5 things, you are all a bunch of liars because we are all human.

So while all my blogs won't consist of explaining why she and I are the best, and the best of friends, I do feel it is an appropriate time to share a story or two from our past. How to pick from so many?

Back when we weren't as wise as we are now, we lived on the same block in the same town. (oh those were the days) and she feared someone was coming into their backyard at night. So we decided to set up markers. We ran fishing line around the perimeter, to see if it would break in the night. Well, we were on the side of the house attaching the line.... and happened to be under the bathroom window which was open. We heard the bathroom door close. We froze. I looked at her, she looked at me... a smile already curling on our lips. You see, we were trapped. I can't remember what was there, but had we moved, we would have been made, and undoubtedly tortured by her brother who was most likely the culprit in the bathroom. So we hugged the wall, and sure enough, her family member began their duties, and in that moment where you have to shut up, we could just not contain ourselves and we laughed so hard I was sure I peed a little.

My next story proves a point that no one is safe around us, including.. well, us. Our family had moved a few miles away at this point and I invited my dear friend over for a movie. Now, my bubble friend in her very safe bubble world had pretty much only seen G rated movies at this point. Scream had just come out on video and was THE movie at this time. So, I peer pressured her into watching it with me and my sister (also a known trouble maker.) Gina hid behind a pillow, we screamed when the mask popped out, it was all great fun. Well, my evil sister had called her evil brother to let her know what we watched, and her parents were not to know. Well, since her family is ginormous, it only fit that they have this huge van. So alas, Mother Conservative pulled up in the 15 seater... my dear friend scowled as she passed me, unhappy to be so scared out of her wits. The next part that happened... I SO WISH I witnessed it first hand, but unfortunately, heard about it in the after math. She sat in the first bench in the back, undoubtedly lying about what we watched, completely unaware that the said evil brother was hidden under the seats (I'm telling you.. HUGE van) and just at the right moment of silence he grabbed her ankles and she screamed bloody murder. Oh man just picturing her face I'm sitting here chuckling to myself. There will be more stories of her evil brother, and our evil tendencies.

These poor innocent girls never had a chance.
